am vs pm

many daylilies will fade in color during the course of the day.  that is the usual effect of the sun.  some daylilies do not fade.  some get darker.  this is Trahlyta.  the image on the left is morning, the right is evening.  daylilies either have their own sunscreen or not.  actually while most of the petal got darker i do think the dark areas of the eyezone may have faded a bit.  and just in case you are wondering is it the same flower then look at the pattern of the stamens and pistil.  same.

I have been wanting to do a side by side image like that for a while now. Without it it is really difficult to begin to measure just what changed. thanks !

Almost like different flower but both are beautiful. I too have noticed that with my Strawberry Candy Daylily, how much it may change in color during the course of the day, depending on weather condition, cold, warm, sun, cloudy, rain etc.

i think you have described it pretty well. the plant and its own individual response – and everything the environment contributes will determine how much it will change.

i think that the correct answer is usually repeats. temperature, the amount of cloud cover, and other variables can affect the amount of change. and it has to repeat each day for that is as long as one flower lasts. daylilies bloom for one day. after that the flower shuts down. the petals wither and a brand new flower replaces it. daylily is bloom for one day. Thanks for the question !
