lake effect snow

our garden is just a few miles south of lake erie.   we get lake effect snow.  so winter has returned.  and while winter has its place and it is one of the forces that shape my garden i still enjoy those pictures of summer.  so while winter is tending to next summer’s garden lets look back at last summer…

      Something resembling steady cold is what we need now. It has been a bit of roller coaster weather with warm and cold. Some plants are not smart enough to stay asleep and start growing again during the warm spells. They waste energy they don’t have with the starting and stopping. Similarly in spring an early warm spell followed by a sever cold spell can screw up the summer growth.

        Yup. There is good shaping of the garden. And then there is the bad. I think I need to post a sign for the plants “please keep your roots in the ground and your buds closed until winter comes to a full and complete stop.” Then all I have to work on is the photo op camera as the plants come to the end of the ride mid spring…
