self seeding

some of the annuals we buy and plant in pots. others like the columbine, larkspur, and poppy are self seeding and show up randomly in the garden. actually the columbine is a short lived perennial. they will live about 3 years and then they are gone. while they last they come in a variety of shapes. they can have long spurs or short. similarly with the petals. and sometimes the flower is double. and then there is the flowers from our neighbor’s tulip tree. green petals and a contrasting bright orange center.
