z is

z is the end of the alphabet.  z is the month of april.  z is so much closer to bloom season.  z seemed a long ways a way and now it is so close.  z is Zoot Sims.  z is an orange spidery bloom in my garden.  and z is staged because the weekend is z busy one.  responses when the weekend slows down.  and yes Zoot looks different on different days.  four images…

time in the garden

we are still at Heavenly Gardens.  the next several days will be images from there on July 3rd.  it was a fairly quick trip through the garden.  not a dash and not a stroll.  opening the car doors disturbed the air pressure enough to start the drizzle.  did not need to slam them to get the drizzle going.  and the ground was already wet from the previous days.  it was wet.  some sections were for looking across.  not at all for walking across.  and some days it is like that in the garden.  here are a couple more flowers.  the first is about an eight inch 20.32 cm star.  thank goodness for the portable gauge.  the second flower has edges, some patterning, pinching, and a few other things going on.  these flowers can range from simple to complex and everywhere between.  five images…

this flower

is not blooming now.  it appears to be done for this summer.  one of its seedlings rebloomed today.  perhaps the rebloom will make it to the camera soon.  for now this will do.  a flower for tonight.  Stella’s Ruffled Fingers.  image found.

the perfect flower

hmmm can two subjects be woven into one post ?  the season is ending in a similar fashion to its start.  there are 10 or so daylilies blooming and repeating the same images each day quickly looses its novelty.  so could any of them be the perfect flower ?  or could any of these be the perfect flower ?

then there is this interesting flower.  the dim light has fooled the camera.  it is not as dark as it seems.  this plant is doing what is known as bud building.  as long as growing conditions are sufficient it keeps adding a new blossom.  each branching has about 12 bud scars so far.  and the last image gives a better sense of the available light.  and a sense of the potential bloom.

10-035 trahlyta x bam IMG_5359 10-035 trahlyta x bam bud scars IMG_536010-035 trahlyta x bam bud scars 2 IMG_5361   now back to the other grey area.  so what is the perfect flower ?   is it one in the fading light ?  one in the fading summer ?  one i can see today ?  one i can remember tomorrow? or imagine next summer ?  a flower i can hold in my hand ?  or is it any flower that can be enjoyed in any of its many forms ?  even over the electronic medium ?   where ever it is i do hope you find it.  if only for a moment.  and for a memory.

this is Heavenly Blast to the Past.  it is an early bloom.  not the earliest, just early.  it is from two diploids that were converted to tetraploids, so they now have 44 chromosomes instead of 22.  a little bigger, a little stronger with similar traits to the diploid versions.  still very pod fertile.  a mid height plant with a small flower.  three images

the road to yellow

focus on the petals might be another way of saying nearly wordless.  though the last time i tried wordless it ended up being more title-less.  so tonight we will throw in a few petal describing words.  like the parents, an unidentified plant and Orchid Corsage.  and the seedling, later named Walking the Pattern.  and picture of its branching.  enough words.  four images…

Starman’s Quest

this is a first generation plant from Trahlyta.  and since all things Trahlyta tend to excite me, is it much of a surprise this one is also high on my list ?  it is a taller plant 40 inches 102 cm.  and it has a very big and dramatic eyezone.   or should i just say it blooms pretty ?  two images…

when and where

sometimes when choosing you know enough to choose parents before the cross.  most times you get to choose afterwards.  the results are only partially predictable.  sometimes this involves form like how the flower buds are arranged.  they can be simply arranged or there can be more branching.  and so it continues with height, color, and other factors.  no matter where you get to choose, if you find something you like it is always a good thing.  four images…
