this one was missing the tag. so the guessing game starts. somewhere there is a planting list matching the cross and the number on the planting label. somewhere. in a safe place. very safe. too safe even. the tags before and after the seedling gave me the number 16-058. of course i guessed wrong on the cross. today while moving other plants the tag got found 16-058 12-080 Little Rainbow’s Big Sister x Moonlit Masquerade) x Vertical Horizon. so now the plant is not only moved. the label has been updated. and i can go on to the next group of moves.

seedling

this is today’s seedling. it opened in the seedling bed this morning. it is a cross of a 6 inch 15.2 cm flower with an 8 inch 20.3 cm flower. the new flower is in the 7 to 8 inch range. now to find other flowers to cross with it. the image of chocolate fennel is included. it grows in a couple locations. the plant is so skinny it is difficult to capture. the morning sunlight highlights the delicate foliage. fennel and other plants from the carrot family attract predatory insects to the garden. we do not spray. we let nature control insect pests.

the slr camera is on the fritz. trying the cell phone and trying to adjust. here are a couple pictures from this morning. going to have to check just how much it rained today. after the Open Hearth x Trahlyta seedling is a seedling out of Stella’s Ruffled Fingers. it is followed by Little Rainbow, Plenteous, and Stella’s Ruffled Fingers. those last three are all in the cross for the seedling.

something old, something new

it works for gardens too. there are no new daylilies blooming in the garden today. there is the same new daylily that bloomed two and three days ago. i could show it again. or i could show other flowers until this year’s flowers really start blooming. oh and there are lots of new plants. double wrapped. or should i say lots of seeds in envelopes. the paper ones with notes on the outside. and the seed coat envelopes with the notes from mother nature on the inside. some people might call those inside notes genetics. the notes that are going to shape those new plants into their own unique shapes. so here is a picture of seed sorting day. four boxes of envelopes covered the dining room table. the seeds i want to plant are now in one box and ready to be planted. some seeds for planting for this year. and some pictures of the flowers that made those seeds. and just in case you need the reminder – planting day is near everyone get out of the meadow… thus spake auntie shrew.

why

why plants seeds ?   all of these are plants grown from seeds here in this garden.  for me that is all the reason i need.  and it will bring me back again to see what comes in the next round of growing seeds.

is it too late ?

i am beginning to suspect we had a bad install of winter.  somehow it was installed over roller coaster 1.0 with an additional partial install of spring.  we have been going up and down with temperature drops and jumps.  one day cold next day warm.  these 20 and 25 degree fahrenheit jumps are getting old.  and way too frequent.  it is going to be interesting to see what does and what does not survive this winter season.  please keep your crash helmets on and your seat belts fastened until the ride comes to a complete and total stop.  we hope you enjoyed your stay here at the weather ride theme park.  if the reboot and re-install alarm sounds before you leave the park tonight please join the hoard at the park office for a complimentary smile and excuse.

i could talk about the weather as in lots of rain, a bit of flooding, and melting snow.  okay enough of that.  there was the afternoon trip to donate platelets.  pinned down with needles for a couple of hours, nice blood techs, and helping people who can use a hand or a bunch of platelets.  if you are healthy and able consider it.  you could make someone’s day.  do consider it.  you might be the flower that brings sunshine into their day.  and speaking of flowers it could just be time for that alternative.  each and every one of these are way to alluring tonight.  pour something comfortable and ask me why…  i could go on for hours so hold a refill in reserve.  i could…
