and on to yellow
this flower is mostly yellow. just not completely yellow. which drifts to my other favorite shade of yellow. and which also begs the question – is there any shade of yellow or daylily for that matter which is not my favorite. happily no – there is not a shade of daylily that will chase me away. i am too easily swayed by any color. the cross is 12-017 10-036 Trahlyta x Black Plush x Desert Icicle a yellow with a pink blush on the midrib. three images…
step and stop
wingman
a seedling in line. this one already has its own place in the garden. no doubt the place is too crowded. going to have to talk to the gardener about his planting scheme. between him and the hybridizer i am surprised that there are not sardines squeezed in here somewhere. now back to the seedling. it is strong and tall plant about 48 inches 121.9 cm tall and has about a 6 inch 15.2 cm flower. maybe even a bit bigger than that. i don’t think this one will get pushed out. it may get crossed with the competition, i like it that much. two images…
dark eyes
not too orange
two orange. one tetraploid – 44 chromosome – orange. and another diploid – 22 chromosome orange. the first is a cross of South Seas x Highland Pinched Fingers and it is tetraploid. the second is a cross of Black Plush and Trahlyta and it is diploid. tetraploid plants have twice as many chromosomes. this means the plants can have twice as many genes controlling a plant behavior. generally this results in a heavier, stronger plant. as in everything else the increased count results in tradeoffs. six images…

now in red
can i have that one in red ? some days the answer is yes. a different flower or a different day and the answer could be a firm maybe or a definite no. not every plant wants to cooperate. this is the red sibling to last night’s flower up the row. that might even be the plant at the end of the row. like it was said last night – some plants are put to work and there are lots of seedlings around the garden from those plants. two images…

a little more
just a bit more exploration. this is a new seedling. a seedling from a parent that has not been neglected and overlooked. this particular cross is Smoke Scream x Black Plush) x Fol de Rol. a bit of searching will turn up other Fol de Rol seedlings. however this one requires no search. two images..
