garden walk

in oh so many ways.  like double check this.  is that the correct marker flag ?  well that this is the case here.  what is this flower ?  then there is the garden walk cleveland.  it will happen july 7 and 8.  i will get to walk my garden repeatedly with clevelanders.  hopefully this flower will still be blooming and will have been successfully double checked by then.

different rules

not quite sleeping and not quite ignoring is not the way to make one of these posts.  what did i leave out ?  the background noise – a home remodeling show.  where the noise consists of the arbitrary style choices of the buyers and remodelers and money.  nature operates under very different choices.  it is more a case of fitting in and surviving  different environments.  and it makes me think that our changes hybridizing often have very little to do with nature’s choices for survival.  now back to that flower two images…

big

this flower is big.  it is not the most colorful thing.  however there are two ways to look at that.  i can cross it with something else and maybe get some color and big.  or i can leave it as is and have some contrast in the garden.  with trade offs there is often an unexpected effect.  the contrast would be one for me.  oh and how big ?  about 8 inches or 20.3 cm.  three images…

of sorts

this is a family portrait of sorts.  three generations.  the only one missing is the pod parent Stella’s Ruffled Fingers.  Stella is blooming away just a few feet north of this plot.  tonight it is the other parent plant Little Rainbow x Talon blooming tall and red to the left.  the rest of the picture is the two generations of seedlings from this cross.  as you can see there are all different heights, colors, and bloom shapes in the mix.   and a small sea of columbine seed pods in the middle.  three images…

Black Plush x Open Hearth

the tet versions.  is this an old cross or a new cross ?  one is from 1955 and the other from 1976 and both were later converted from diploid to tetraploid.  so i will go with the yes answer.  there is no old and new when combining genetics.  there are just different combinations.  and this combination will get combined again.  four images…

Stella’s Ruffled Fingers kid

this is a seedling out of a cross of Stella’s Ruffled Fingers x ( Little Rainbow x Talon).  this is a second generation cross seedling x seedling.  is it more peach than orange ?   will have to cross it again and find out which color wins.  three images…

different day same summer

i did not want to say different day same flower.  why ?  because it is not.  they are both from the same plant exactly one day apart.  and they are two different flowers.  what makes them not so similar ?  is it the light, the time of day, different temperature ranges over the two day period ?  something affected the image quality.  they were taken with the same camera.  and yes different cameras can be part of the change.  they are both pictures of Isolde taken today and yesterday here in this garden.  and while we are puzzling a puzzle of a lighter subject matter.  where do fairy elephants hang their tusks ?  several images…
