more purple

and other purple. summer goes fast. lots of new seedlings. so much to catch the eyes. so much to fill the brain. this is a new one this summer. long skinny petals with just enough of a turn. and two of my favorite flowers brought together…

the dance

i don’t know if those garden fairies are dancing. however when they see this flower it might want to make them start…

flagged

this one has been a keeper since the day it bloomed. where it will land now is another story. land it will at some other flower’s expense. i will need to find spots for it and the other flowers flagged in the second review bed. and i will have time because six of them are still blooming. an several others have seed pods ripening. so those that have their seed pods already harvested will move first. and then we will work our way down the line…

choose a door

any door. would you like door number a ? or door number b ? c ? how about door number d ? the sad part is i could choose them all. and i might. except that will throw the whole game of garden musical chairs into total chaos. every winner will displace a plant who becomes a loser. and there are way too many pretty faces in the garden. the seedling for tonight comes first. then there are its siblings behind doors numbered b through d. there is going to be an awful amount of digging in the garden this fall. i may wear out a shovel or two. not to mention my back. and wear a path to the fridge for water and other gardener’s emollients… yes really.

recipe for pink

the color of the flowers that went into this flower are : golden, purple, yellow, more orange, and more purple. stir briskly and you might get a pink flower with a red eye. color theory has nothing to do with color reality. and it sure is surprising and fun watching color reality unfold…

july or sept

there are three or four plants that are blooming. blooming with more than one or two flowers each day. and i will try to capture some of that though at this time of the year the motivation to do so is not so great. the fading of the summer garden is a fact. it is part of the cycle and it is going to happen. just like it will not be very long until the black walnut sheds its leaves. the first of them have started and gravity and the fall season will win. and win quickly. the black walnut does not dawdle at either end of its growth. so it will be july for the picture. this is Kyoto Swan x Wanda Evans. lavender and skinny just like i like them…

skinny

the butterflies are floating around the garden these days. there are still a few daylilies blooming. a few rebloom scapes raising above the foliage and stating their surprise. however the downward spiral is definitely at work. the season is heading to an end. on the other hand my garden assistant is heading for a beginning. it has another molt or two before it gets its wings… oh and this skinny flower is from july.

older seedling

this seedling has a lovely flower. i would like to put it on a taller plant. it will need to be a focus for next summer…

seedling

this one is a cross of a full formed flower in pale pink and a skinny dark purple flower. first the two parent plants and then the seedling…
