inside the fence

can i mix baseball metaphors here inside the garden ?   i keep telling myself that this one could be an inside the fence home run.  and someday it might pull it off.  it has good color combination.  a nice paint like splash of color.  and it is tall enough.  four images…

rain

sitting next to the door listening to the rain fall.  it has been a long day walking at the fair.  it was a good day.  now it is time for a good rest.  and it is a good time for a star to twinkle.  even if it is cloudy and the only star is twinkling on this screen.  one of my favorite stars Cerulean Star.  three images…

cerulean

evidently the fascination with shades of blue in daylilies is not new.  this flower is called Cerulean Star.  i am convinced it is a wonderful flower.  even if it is mostly lavender.  the name does not undo the flower.  four images…

another shade of lavender

only a few steps to this one.  and a big yellow applique eye.  dare i say another favorite ? three images…

back again

this is a flower i wait for each summer.  it has companions and yet it seems to wander to the front of the list and i seek it out.  could it be the simple clean form ?  or its subtle coloration ? something calls.  and gentle as that call may be it is strong.   even now as we drift into winter it can be felt just looking at the picture.  three images…

hello…

as in hello where did you come from ?  this seedling surprised me.  large – like somewhere in the 10 inch 25.4 cm dinner plate size flower.  hello.  so what is the cross ?   Smoke Scream x Cerulean Star) x Black Plush x Trahlyta) x Wind Frills.  hello !  that is just a couple of my old seedlings.  so now i am properly confused.  big,  pinchy twisty red lavender with a gray blueish purple eye, and a huge yellow throat.  hello !  are you starting to get the idea i was surprised ?  well i am still starting to get the idea.  and i am starting to like it.  honey i am going out to play in the garden.  i will probably be back in when it gets dark.  you just can’t hold it.  it only last one day and it disappears.  the smile does not.  three images…

indecisive

not anymore tonight…. now tomorrow night this might repeat.  or not.  the seedling is 12-097 10-043 Little rainbow x Cerulean Star) x Sally Sue.  and yes it a number with-in another number.  it was part of the 97th group of seedlings planted back in 2012.  so we can do our own version of ‘when you can snatch the pebble from my hand’  or should it be blossom from the garden ?  so this is the seedling that was finally chosen for tonight.  two images…  with a glowing yellow.  a yellow that glows too bright for its lavender companion pigment…

driving home with willie in the bicycle lane

yes it has been that kind of a night….   my cousin Erin and her husband Ryan got married tonight…. does it get any  better ?  best wishes to them both.  we left the event in great spirits.  you figure out the details…  it is a wonderful night.  it was a tad befuddling working out the directions.   Rt 2 kept dodging and weaving still that was not an issue.  downtown was escaped!  detroit ave. with its bicycle lane was good with Willie Nelson and the route home.  maybe i did not love you as much as i should have…..   and i will keep working on that part….    and all is well.  here is a flower for the newly weds and t very blessed future….

a little start

there are many patterned daylilies.  so why should i so to speak start over ?  the simple answer is there are not many diploid spidery patterned daylilies.  or perhaps i am just silly or stubborn.  so the first cross was Cerulean Star x Sings the Blues.  that seedling was in turn crossed with Katie’s Blues, the seedling pictured here.  now that seedling might be crossed with this seedling 12-0619-004 black plush x trahlyta) x Wind Frills.  that is if they will cross at all.  this one’s small pattern  appeared on its own.  nothing to speak of in the history of the three parents showed a pattern.  so back to that little start.  perhaps we shall follow it and see where it leads.  three images
