what snow

it did finally snow here. it is 21 degrees fahrenheit -6 c and lake affect snow. come wednesday it is supposed to go back to the 40 degree 4 c range. now a couple of parent plants and one of their seedlings. and some thoughts of summer…

or almost

do i want sunny days ? or almost ? on a sunny day the flowers can loose some of their colors photographically. the glare will get in the way of the flower. or if i am waiting for the magic hour of perfect light some of the flowers will only be partly open. or if i am counting on clouds i will only be able to take a handful of pictures. on an overcast day i can take lots of pictures. it is just that the flowers will not glow. i can have flowers i just can’t have pictures of all of them. or i can’t have cake and eat it too… then again the hot sun makes the chilled adult beverages beverages taste better… now where was i…

round two

both of these flowers have made it to round two. they are both out of Volcan Fuego. like their parent plant both of them are very well branched and both bloom late in the season. and unlike their parent plant they do not have trumpet shaped flowers. these blooms are flat and open. and round three beckons.

round one

crossing one flower to another is usually the first of a series of steps. seldom does that first cross gives you everything you are looking for. you might get a nice big skinny flower. and still have to work on the taller stem in the next round. or the color. or the branching. or strong vigorous growth. it becomes a contest of adding the right building blocks and not dropping the building blocks gained in the first round. it is a process…

next summer

this one is on the find me list. we know the seedling bed. we know the approximate location. now we just listen for the watch for my return whispers. and watch for the bloom…

keep looking

dandelions will bloom when ever they can find a chance. summer annuals are another case. this is not what i expect on the second day of the new year. surprise me daisy. it may not be pretty. still it is blooming. from that i will jump to a flower from last summer. a flower that continues to fascinate me with possibilities. Orchid Convergence is only two crosses away from its species start ((Night Gown × H. citrina) × Cloud Forest). and it has moved completely away from its smaller trumpet shaped flowers of Citrina. this flower is 8.5 inches 21.6 cm. yes there will be crosses for this flower. and i hope lots of interesting seeds to plant…
