forms

watching a new flower grow is pretty much a case of watching it fill out its forms. or more properly its individual form. not paper work forms. the form it grows out and fills. like this flower. yes the petals are longer. do they extend to their full length ? or do they curl under ? is the flower fertile ? does the pollen set seed on other flowers ? does the pollen from other flowers set seed on this flower ? all of these observations take time. time not just a day, not just a day, not even just a summer. as these and other questions are eventually answered a complete picture eventually develops and the overall quality of the flower is revealed…

extra

not like the old newspaper headlines. extra petals. even i have to look for them. when there are lots of flowers, like a thousand flowers they are not nearly so obvious. and even though i know the garden fairies are there i never see them. i just hear the giggles…

red

thursday’s flower is red. it has a yellow throat. is that enough ? is a picture of a flower enough ? is watching a sunset enough ? is a sunrise enough ? hope however small is always enough. a single flower. a sunset. a sunrise. they are all enough. they are a small message of hope. so share a sunrise. share a sunset. share a flower. share hope…

sibling

or a different temperature purple ? this flower made it out of the seedling bed last fall. perhaps this summer i will find out if it is a sibling or it is the lighter color phase of itself. either way there are dreams of great fun with the pollen and seeds from these two flowers. look deep into both of their eyes…

seedling

another seedling. cream colored. lavender eyezone. reddish outline and etching into the eye. and a yellow throat. this one made it out of the seedling bed this fall. something to watch and to see what it might do…

Purple Satellite

this flower does skinny. i hope to get it to do a little taller. it blooms 33 inches 84 cm tall. the flower is 11.5 inches 29 cm across. and two of its three parents are favorites here in the garden. there are several seedlings from Trahlyta and Asterisk growing here already. with a little luck there will be more after this summer…

pail

this daylily is about as pail a yellow as one can get. some oranges and yellows are so bright they over power both the camera and the eye. the color is so strong it starts to mask the detail. the flower is head towards pure color and little else. a great color to scream across the garden above all other colors. and up close it is so strong one’s eyes are quickly drawn to their weaker, no not weaker – more detailed neighbors. there is a place for both in the garden. and together they make the trip through the garden an ongoing visual experience…
