and on to yellow

this flower is mostly yellow.  just not completely yellow.  which drifts to my other favorite shade of yellow.  and which also begs the question – is there any shade of yellow or daylily for that matter which is not my favorite.  happily no – there is not a shade of daylily that will chase me away.  i am too easily swayed by any color.  the cross is 12-017 10-036 Trahlyta x Black Plush x Desert Icicle a yellow with a pink blush on the midrib.  three images…

this is a sib cross.  two sibling plants crossed back to each other trying to reinforce traits hidden in the first cross.  Autumn Minaret is tall.  the seedling was too.   it also has a small flower.  Desert Icicle has a long petaled flowing flower.  some things come back on that second cross.  will the height come back too ?  two images…

dark seedling

one parent is a yellow flower.  and the other is a light brown.  so the seedling will be… what it is.  and perhaps not what we expect.  Desert Icicle and Fol de Rol are the parents.  images of the seedling follow.

 

orange for tonight

Coleman Hawkins an orange for oranges.  with a bit of Desert Icicle, Eggplant Ecstasy, and Dallas Star around the edges.  if  it were not for this picture someone would have forgotten one of these plants bloomed this year.  and that is a horse of a different color and a discussion for another evening.  four images…

full sun

this plant moved to full sun last year.   or perhaps i should say fuller sun.  it moved away from the lilac and to a spot where it should get a little more sun.  so it will be interesting to see what effect it has on the flower size and height.  then there is the drifting thoughts of what this needs to be crossed with this summer.  this is a four foot high plant 1.2 meters.   both parents are tall and i would like to bring back the flowing petals of Desert Icicle.  time will tell what it might become.  two images

cinnamon dust

i think i turned down the wrong aisle in the candy store tonight.   it was the one that nearly does not end…   then i found a picture.  and even remembered that is what i came in here to get…  a yellow seedling with some red dust on the petals.  a cross of Desert Icicle x Autumn Minaret) x North Wind Dancer that should move out of the seedling bed and into the observation garden this spring.  two images …

that would be see one see another.  two cousins, both crossed from Smoke Scream to different parents.  The first was crossed to Diabolique and the second to a seedling from Desert Icicle x Autumn Minaret.  a truly remarkable similarity.  they are both quite beautiful and beyond that they are both quite different.  three images…
