fall day

today was a day of blue skies, balding trees, and long shadows. the sky was perfect blue. the black walnut is dropping leaves. you can look through it and see the sky and clouds. and the shadows on the north side of the house run 30 feet covering the bed that in summer is always in full sun. the cherry tomato has lost nearly all its leaves. the remaining few fruits look like the ornaments on a charlie brown christmas tree. moving seedlings continues. the secondary review bed that was just cleared of old seedlings is almost refilled. the dig continues. and another daylily has decided there is time for one more flower scape. surprise…

the digging continues. the dance of plants in and out of the garden. the part where 4th year seedling evaluation continues has been cleared. two plants have moved into the bed. and rains came late tonight. mud and plants will move tomorrow…

a little more

when i plant seeds they are 6 inches 15 cm apart. they grow that way for three years. at the end of those three years the keepers go to a bed where they have about two or three times as much room. and after three more years the keepers get even a little more room. more room to strut their stuff. watching the strutting is a good thing…

polychrome the blending of many colors without distinct bands. in this case a yellow with a pale pink blush. to put it simply this one is a keeper…

two of the flowers that have my attention are Plenteous and Stella’s Ruffled Fingers. both of them rebloom. put them together and one of their seedlings reblooms. this is a seedling from that reblooming seedling. it will take another season to see if this one reblooms. until them i like the look of this seedling. one step at a time…
