well this one is known, Prague Spring x Fol De Rol. a simple star with a regular ruffle. three images…
one parent is a yellow flower. and the other is a light brown. so the seedling will be… what it is. and perhaps not what we expect. Desert Icicle and Fol de Rol are the parents. images of the seedling follow.
one way to remember the seedling bed. one garden with yellow. one way to take my breath away. one moment. one moment not to be held back. the two central flowers are siblings. the cross is Carmine Ibis x Fol de Rol. one is dark like Carmine Ibis. one is yellow unlike either parent. one is named for our granddaughter Vera’s Verse. and one is waiting for a name. the last image is the two parent flowers. and no bloom season has not started yet. these are from previous summers. six images…
Monday December 22nd about two days from now the cycle will finish. and a new cycle will begin. days will stop getting shorter. they will start getting longer. the winter will begin and it will in time fade. so far it has been a mild start to winter. there was snow, a dusting, this morning. and the next several days are forecast to be a bit warmer. like every winter we will just have to sit back and see what winter will do. one day at a time. and then we will have to take the same approach to the garden. watch the blooms one day at a time. until then let us celebrate the solstice and the company of one another. four perspectives…

sneak up on a daylily. fortunately this is not a wild daylily so some dangers can be dispensed with. perhaps. this round nothing went awry. you don’t simply walk straight up to it particularly if you want to get a good image. it will flinch and ruin the image.
see it simply ruins the image. what was i thinking ? ! ? however if you try a different approach. and remember to whisper ‘be vewy vewy quiet, i am stalking daylilies’. sometimes you might get a better image.
and skinny. the seedling and parents have this in their heritage, Carmine Ibis and Fol de Rol share these habits. here are the two parents side by side.
and here is one of the seedlings. three images…
certain seedlings i hold onto. this one has several simple elements that once the flower assembles them work more than effectively. they grab my attention. and like so many others the past few days this flower needs to be used in some crosses. and if and when seeds come they need to be planted. two images…
can i have that one in red ? some days the answer is yes. a different flower or a different day and the answer could be a firm maybe or a definite no. not every plant wants to cooperate. this is the red sibling to last night’s flower up the row. that might even be the plant at the end of the row. like it was said last night – some plants are put to work and there are lots of seedlings around the garden from those plants. two images…
