comes after what if. this seedling of crossing of a species, an older plant, and a relatively new plant. shaken and stirred. sorry mr. bond. it took tall and decently branched and budded from one parent. and not quite as skinny or long petaled from another parent. and one or more parents added some decent vigor. it was in the middle of the bed so it had competition for light on all sides. no problem it was one of the most vigorous plants in the bed. it still reached the 48 inch 121.9 cm height and it produced several flower scapes. i will be wanting to add more pollen from tall and skinny flowers to this next summer…

not the color between red and yellow. that is too easy. there are other parts of this flower to catch one’s attention. there is the shape. there are ruffles. there is a red eye. and there is even the paler shade of sepals curling back. bashful and trying to hide. and not quite succeeding. it is all part of the whole. none of it is to be ignored…

these are two siblings. one with shorter petals. one with longer petals. i almost separated them last summer. they were growing all mixed together. very together…

this flower was given a french name. and somehow it seemed like a good idea to just paste the image right into the blog without really trying. or even knowing the key sequence that triggered it. though it should not be a difficult guess. now where did that flower go to ? Place D’Etoile. i would much rather just leave it to the flower. and for the moment let history rest on the shelf. it can do that some moments. perhaps this summer this flower will make its own history here in the garden. and with that it is time to stop imagining and just image…

because it is early and the zag that was planned zags too much. so he went to the word press media library and searched for Smoke Scream. and found too much. five pages too much. at least too much for 2:30 am. so the path for this zig is shorter. a path to something yellow from somethings purple. one purple seedling is 10-081 Talon x Smoke Scream. the other purple is Thorhalla. stir the colors gently for hours. then add just a pinch of eye of newt. or just a tear drop…
