inside the fence

can i mix baseball metaphors here inside the garden ?   i keep telling myself that this one could be an inside the fence home run.  and someday it might pull it off.  it has good color combination.  a nice paint like splash of color.  and it is tall enough.  four images…

G2 too

this will be continued.  and continued.  there are about a dozen siblings and cousins with Stella’s Ruffled Fingers or her children getting ready to bloom in the garden.  eventually they will make their way here.  unless they are named pete and repeat.  then i might just skip a few.  or not.  this one is a bit more spidery.  and all of them will most likely need a year to mature and rebloom.  the second year will be more telling of the final look and form.  this one started the day fairly straight and then picked up a bit of ruffles and twist.  they are small 3 – 4 inch 7.6 – 10.1 cm flowers.  several images…

as in generation two.  this is a seedling from the second generation from a cross of Little Rainbow x Talon) x Stella’s Ruffled Fingers.   the second generation cross was sibling to sibling.  i am trying to keep the plants small like Stella’s Ruffled Fingers and to bring back the rebloom that was lost in the first generation.  this one looks a lot like Stella including the bloom shape.   the color has changed from pink to a peach shade.  two images…

nobody cares

this is a good nobody cares.  an in the garden nobody cares.  why ?  because l is for Little Rainbow.  it is a small short little flower.  it is named for a rainbow and it does not even have all of the colors of the rainbow.  and nobody cares.  it is just that pretty.  so why don’t i stop wasting my breath and let you feast your eyes.  five images…

impertinent

a regular botanical anarchist.  that would be a good definition of some plants.  and that would include the daylily.  maybe not every day.  maybe not every week.  just don’t expect them to read the instructions, believe the definitions,  and conform to any construct we arrange.  there are those who seek to fix as in stabilize variegated leaves in daylilies.  so far they are a determined and unrewarded lot.  the trait comes and goes on the whim of the plant.  and so it is with other traits.  there are polys, daylilies that have more than the normal allotment of three petals and three sepals.  and a true poly, if i can use the word true or normal to describe them, will have only one pistil.  while a fused bloom, which often resembles a poly, is two flowers that grow fused into a single bloom.  however a fused bloom will show two stems, two ovaries partially fused together.  and it will show two pistils with six petals and six sepals.  so besides impertinent what is this flower ?  with its two pistils and five petals and five sepals, and if the eyes do not deceive me 11 stamen ?  i favor the impertinent answer.  four images…

with

a yellow seedling with a pink blush.  it did not even wink at me and still caught my eye.  this is a seedling out of Stella’s Ruffled Fingers x (Little Rainbow x Talon).  Stella is pink, Little Rainbow is yellow with a lot of pink blush, and Talon while itself a dark flower often gives up its color to the other parents.  so what can be in the works to combine this flower with other small flowers of its size with pink and yellow in the color wheel ?  two images…

indecisive

not anymore tonight…. now tomorrow night this might repeat.  or not.  the seedling is 12-097 10-043 Little rainbow x Cerulean Star) x Sally Sue.  and yes it a number with-in another number.  it was part of the 97th group of seedlings planted back in 2012.  so we can do our own version of ‘when you can snatch the pebble from my hand’  or should it be blossom from the garden ?  so this is the seedling that was finally chosen for tonight.  two images…  with a glowing yellow.  a yellow that glows too bright for its lavender companion pigment…

a little story

for now at least.   this is a first year seedling.  a first bloom.  the cross is Little Rainbow x Talon) x Stella’s Ruffled Fingers) x Plenteous).  many things are possible with this flower.  so i think i will just sit back and watch them unfold in a relaxed excited sort of way.  the whole plant, flower and all is no taller than my extended hand.  somewhere about 8 inches 20.3 cm.  and the flower is in the 3 inch 7.6 cm range.  it has 3 years to mature.  both Stella’s Ruffled Fingers and Plenteous have rebloom in their genetic history.  time will tell what might be.  four images…
