slippery

this flower eludes me.  oh i have not lost it.  i know where it grows.  however to capture it in a kind light, one that shows its beauty that eludes me.  it is a gentle blend of colors.  a soft pink blending into yellows.  four images and the hope that next summer i am able to capture it in a better light.   a light that reveals the flower’s inner glow…

this and that

a little of this and a bit of that.  first a progression of the flower.  Trahlyta, Starman’s Quest, and a seedling Starman’s Quest crossed with Stargate Portal.  Trahlyta is one of the parent plants of Starman’s Quest.  and a few images of the Starman’s Quest x Stargate Portal seeding.  the last of which the seedling attempts to exit stage right.  the camera man will attempt to dodge all responsibility for that trick.  perhaps poorly dodge.  and sometimes you go with what you got instead of what you wish you had.  some things photoshop cannot cure. five images…

one day

daylily.  hemerocalis – greek  ‘beauty’ and  ‘day’.  loosely beauty for a day.  a flower that last only one day.  whether they open at sunrise or sunset by the next one their glory is spent and they are done.  look just below the flower.  the wisp of spent flower just a few days old.  all water gone and the faintest paper thin husk remains.  three images…

not wordless wednesday

keep looking  tonight’s seedling proves you have not found them all.  or at the very least did something else with the picture name.  confusion is that other state inside of ohio.  keep going through the seedling beds.  keep finding those seedlings.  this one is a pale pink with a pale purple eye.  yes i need to find and flag this seedling.  welcome to the home of misguided optimism and pretty flowers.  three images…

when it twinkles

and when it glows.  there are 3 or 5 seedlings growing in garden similar to this one.  somewhere in their genetics they have some of Irish Lullaby in their ancestry.  roughly 36 inches 91 cm tall and a 5 inch 12.7 cm bloom.  all similar and all significantly different.  each grain of pollen, so tiny has more potential genetic combinations than all of the stars we might see.  you can keep your wow button handy and be prepared to be stunned when the next generation emerges.  it keeps things from getting boring.  three images…

easy peasy

not.  nature prefers a bit of stubbornness on most occasions.  you will see parts of your hopes.  and other parts will be missing.  both are late flowers.  one is a seedling from Adeline Goldner.  it is more open and star shaped.  the other, Sky Captain is rounder and taller and pinker.  and the seedling is somewhere in the middle.  it requires more imagination and some pollen to match.  can i find either ?  after all the garden is as much reality as it is a place of dreams.  four images…

keep stirring

this flower has color changing genetics.  one of its parents fades over the course of the day.  the flower is a full form mostly round in shape.  there is very little space between the petals and sepals.  and at the end of the day most of its color is gone.  the other parent is a seedling with unusual form genetics.  both the petals and sepals are narrower.  so far the seedling has not shown the color change.  it may take some crosses back into other color changers to bring out this trait.  three images…
