dark and spidery

a seedling that bloomed today.  it is in the 8 inch 20.32 cm range.  what i like even more is this one seems to have some movement.  then only time will tell how the other blooms behave.  i have all summer to find out.  and yes pollen was exchanged in the garden.  three images…

rain

it could be the edges of tropical storm cindy.  or it could just be rain.  either way it was here most of the day and into the evening.  in the end the daylilies will enjoy all that rain.  today well it did not make them overly photogenic.  catch them early and the raindrops look nice.  and after a few hard downpours well they tend to get bruised and tattered.  then again they last one day so tomorrow’s flowers will have a clean start.  one that experienced the rain and the same flower from a sunny day last summer.  three images…

garden walk

in oh so many ways.  like double check this.  is that the correct marker flag ?  well that this is the case here.  what is this flower ?  then there is the garden walk cleveland.  it will happen july 7 and 8.  i will get to walk my garden repeatedly with clevelanders.  hopefully this flower will still be blooming and will have been successfully double checked by then.

different rules

not quite sleeping and not quite ignoring is not the way to make one of these posts.  what did i leave out ?  the background noise – a home remodeling show.  where the noise consists of the arbitrary style choices of the buyers and remodelers and money.  nature operates under very different choices.  it is more a case of fitting in and surviving  different environments.  and it makes me think that our changes hybridizing often have very little to do with nature’s choices for survival.  now back to that flower two images…

Black Plush x Open Hearth

the tet versions.  is this an old cross or a new cross ?  one is from 1955 and the other from 1976 and both were later converted from diploid to tetraploid.  so i will go with the yes answer.  there is no old and new when combining genetics.  there are just different combinations.  and this combination will get combined again.  four images…

Stella’s Ruffled Fingers kid

this is a seedling out of a cross of Stella’s Ruffled Fingers x ( Little Rainbow x Talon).  this is a second generation cross seedling x seedling.  is it more peach than orange ?   will have to cross it again and find out which color wins.  three images…

cousin

still in 2016 today.  i opted not to shop the same flower from two days ago.  and opted instead for a cousin of a flower shown not too long ago.  this is a Strung Out seedling.  its cousin is the yellow shown two days ago.  both yellow, both open star shaped form.  this seedling carries the flower a good 12 inches 30.48 cm higher.  so could the two be crossed and perhaps stretch out into an even more open star ?   what other plants can both of them be crossed with ?  some answers just have to be found the slow patient way.  three images…
