endure

the covid-19 news is not pretty. until we finally get testing there is little we can do to confine the virus. one slightly positive note is congress has decided to forego testing until the same testing becomes available to the general public. hope that this becomes available soon. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this. and this summer this seedling will go into the mix for making new seedlings. a bit of a prettier thought to worry about.

breath of summer

today was warm. pleasantly warm. like in the low 70s fahrenheit 21.1c. a very good day to play in the garden. there was a butterfly who did not want its picture taken. and there were plants to be moved. one seedling bed cleared. one to go. columbine are sending up there blossoms. it will not take them long to open. there are flower buds on the lilac. and the virginia bluebell have those little blue bells. i wish one could use them for ringing. it would sure help if there were someone to pull me back to the vertical orientation. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

tall pink and twisted

that is the short description. there are times when a slightly more extensive description is better. bloom 8 inches 20.3 cm. open star shape. pink petals with lighter midrib and darker eyezone. yellow throat. sepals tend to straw shape with curled tips. overall height of scape 46 inches 116.8 cm. now all i need to do is think about possible crosses for this coming summer. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

blurday

it is the day before blurday. and it is the day after blurday. they say if you put a flower in it that it does not hurt. it might even improve blurday. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

warm rain

it seems to becoming a habit. perhaps that thing referred to as spring is going to take over. throw in a few nearly dry days and even a bit of sun and i will fall victim to its lures. i would miss the news dearly. well almost. too many are rushing to heal the economy. and most would do this at the expense of the humanity. that thing the smart people keep talking about – testing, contact tracking, isolate the disease. confine it. then we can start the economy. otherwise too much of this intended business will go to the hospitals. and they neither want it nor need it. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

the pace of spring

the late daffodil are blooming. tulips are blooming. there are a few the deer did not get. and now is the time of the dandelion. they will bloom here and there just about all year long. even through the snow if they get a chance. and now is the time when they all bloom at once. green carpets dotted with bright golden highlights. this year’s seedling bed still needs to be emptied of old seedlings. and that has started. then this year’s crop can be planted. if all goes well that should happen sometime next week. my garden is almost too small for a tiller. so the shovel takes out old plants. the rake and hoe prepare the seedling bed. and it is all good exercise. and the rain will give me time to find the envelope to match the seedling spreadsheet. fight the virus, test for the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

slow

as in slowly learning. covid-19 we are going on a slow trip. some of us are figuring out what it takes to beat covid-19. testing identifies the virus. not just temperature. testing for the virus. testing to find people who display no symptoms. testing so we know and can prevent the spread of the virus. testing so we can save lives. if we don’t test and control the virus it will test and control us. we need to liberate ourselves from the virus. and the tool is testing. the ambulance drivers, the nurses, the doctors, the extended care facilities, and all of us do not need any more sick patients. we need to beat the virus. fight the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

2nd looks

lots of pictures can help see that a flower did not look pretty on just one day. it does not have to look exactly the same. it just needs to hold up to pretty on a regular basis. the looking takes a while. after a flower is found it needs to be put in a place where it can be watched every day. watched from one year to the other. does it grow ? even after it is moved ? some do not move well. some falter. some sit and sulk. some don’t bat an eye and just keep on growing. they do need to be watched. fight the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.

add picture

now does the picture go with the text ? or is it the other way around and the text goes with the picture ? or do they both just go into the blog ? could there be other forces at work here like sleep ? or am i just awkwardly working my way into a round of twenty questions ? this could be the part where the avoidance of things late night mathematical comes in. and remember even though the answer is 42 there was absolutely no indication that it was indeed a math problem. because everyone knows that universal encompasses a great many subjects. so if you were about to explain why jupiter and the oak tree just past the barn shared proximity almost no one would blame this on cats. 42. fight the virus, shelter in place, thank a medical responder, thank first responders, show empathy everyone needs some now. we are in this together. we can do this.
