KITCS syndrome

that would be Kid in the candy store.  you might have seen me post ‘find a picture’.   some days are easier than others.  oh that one is nice and that other one will be tomorrow.  except tomorrow the other one is another other one.  or should it be this one ?   was yesterday’s flower red ?  what color should we do today ?  oh no – look that one !   and so it goes.  it is not easy to wander into the candy store each day.   do find a picture.  please.  for today some parents and a seedling.  and the parents are seedlings too…  three images…   the cross is Turn Back Time X Coburg Preview) x (Highland Pinched Fingers x South Seas )    and   seedling x tet Skinwalker right to left.  their seedling is below…

mixing

when two flowers are put together you know the color of each parent.  what is not known is what the seed will do.  in this case a brown flower Teddy Bear’s Picnic and a pale cream colored seedling from Cobrug Preview and Turn Back Time.  and what will win out ?   in this case the pale color carried over to the new seedling.  two images

not a summer snowflake

sometimes wandering the picture folders is almost as surprising as wandering the garden when new things are blooming.  oh i like this one and that one and that one.   and it becomes very difficult to hold them all.  perhaps you will enjoy holding this one for a moment or two.  two images a couple days apart.  the same flower with a bit of a different look.  the second image has a bit of sculptural shaping going on.  the petal is folded so all that is visible is the midrib.  enjoy.  and at this time of year i don’t think the request to compare it to anything except a snowflake is the least bit unusual…

a seedling

This is a first year bloom seedling from this past summer.  The loose translation, it might just get better as it matures.  And right now it is not so bad just as it is.   The sepals are long and skinny.  And the front petals are showing enough pinch and length to make them interesting.  The cross is 12-028 ((11-003 Turn Back Time X Coburg Preview) x (Highland Pinched Fingers x South Seas )) x (SH B110-A tet Skinwalker)  Yes it is a long list of plants.  And sometimes it is good to know the plants involved in a cross.  And to build on that bit of knowledge.  For now enough details,  the seedling.

the gardener’s apprentice

If you remember the scene of the many brooms carrying buckets and refilling the well to overflowing then perhaps you can begin to imagine the challenge of growing daylilies from seed.  Growing lots of daylilies from seed.  Take some notes and make some crosses.  Put little tags in the ground.  Watch the sun fade the notes on the tag.  Yes it was permanent and magic marker too!  Make note to sun, permanent is not supposed to fade.  Watch plants grow over markers where hiding becomes an insufficiently descriptive term.  Now take some pictures and try to guess which notes and tags belong with those pretty blooms.  Bring on the gardener’s apprentice while I go take a nap.  This one bloom  somehow avoided those pitfalls.  Rest assured it was by chance and the narrowest of margins.

turn back time x colberg preview

This is a seedling from Turn Back Time crossed with Coburg Preview.  It is a mostly white bloom with yellow edging.  How this happened when the siblings are mostly pink, well lets just blame that troublesome apprentice.  Meanwhile make it 8 flowers until spring.
