poly

poly it rolls off the tongue so much easier than a flower with extra petals. daylilies almost all of the time favor three petals in front and three sepals in back. if you count six it is situation normal. they also have a quirky sense of humor. if you are walking through the garden and hear a faint giggling sound the garden fairies and indeed the daylilies are in on a small joke. lets make a poly. this one here needs extra petals ! how many do you want to add today ! ? two ? three ? or six more ? there is no expecting it just listen for the giggles…

Damyanti it is probably bad enough I like puns. Please for the safety of the garden and all that is sacred do not encourage me to start relating garden fairy jokes. And I solemnly promise not to tell anyone it was you who got me started.

The fairies love flukes of nature, like extra petals or extra nooks or crannies or appendages. We had a cat named Tinkerbell, who had six toes on each foot. Quite remarkable.

Seriously, thought…. will the extra petals be a hereditary feature of offspring?

I love the colors of this beautiful Lily.

There are some daylilies where the extra petal trait is more or less fixed. However just about any daylily can do this out of the blue. So listen for the giggling fairies. Always.
